Sunset Beach Sunrise Family Session

There is something different about Sunset Beach first thing in the morning.

Before the chairs and umbrellas come out and families begin making their way toward the water, everything is a little quieter. The air is softer, the shoreline is peaceful, and for just a little while, it feels like you have the beach almost entirely to yourself.

For this family session on Sunset Beach, we met at sunrise. The morning gave us beautiful soft light, a quiet stretch of beach, and the sweetest little one to photograph right in the middle of the baby years.

The baby years are worth remembering

There is something about photographing a family with a baby that makes you realize just how quickly this season moves.

Right now, you know exactly how your baby feels in your arms. The expressions they make when they see you. The way their little hand reaches for yours. The smile you know how to get when no one else can.

And then, almost without realizing it, they're bigger.

That is why I don't want your family gallery to be made up of only everyone standing together and looking at my camera.

We'll absolutely take that photograph.

But then I want you to hold your baby. Walk together. Make them laugh. Scoop them up. Kiss those cheeks. Let them snuggle into you.

Those are the photographs that will remind you what this season actually felt like.

Summer evenings at the beach are beautiful, but sunrise has a magic all its own.

The beach is quieter. The summer temperatures are cooler. And the soft morning light coming across the water gives us such a beautiful backdrop.

There is another pretty big perk when you're traveling with a baby or young children: we aren't competing with bedtime.

If your little one is already awake with the sun, an early morning session can fit naturally into the schedule they're already keeping. We get to photograph them at the beginning of their day instead of asking them for one more thing after a full day of vacation.

For this little one, sunrise was exactly where we needed to be.

Planning family photos during your Sunset Beach vacation

If you're vacationing on Sunset Beach, your trip is such a beautiful opportunity to finally get everyone in the frame.

You're already together. You're away from the schedules and routines of home. Your children are making memories with the people they love.

Instead of another souvenir from your week at the beach, you get to take home photographs of your family during a season you'll never have exactly this way again.

I photograph both local families and families visiting the North Carolina coast. Sessions are relaxed, child-led, and focused on genuine connection while still making sure we capture those classic family portraits you'll want to print and keep.

Family photography along the North Carolina coast

While this beautiful morning brought me to Ocean Isle Beach, I photograph families throughout the beaches of Brunswick, New Hanover, Pender, and Onslow Counties.

You'll find me on Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach, Holden Beach, Oak Island, Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Topsail Beach, Surf City, and North Topsail Beach.

Some families call the coast home. Others are here for one week each summer, gathering grandparents, cousins, siblings, and babies under one roof. Either way, these sessions are about more than having the beach as a beautiful backdrop.

They're about documenting your family in the season you're in right now.

Your beach vacation deserves a place in your family story

Maybe this is your baby's first trip to the beach. Maybe your kids have grown up spending summers here. Maybe this is the one week of the year when your entire family is finally together.

Whatever brings you to the North Carolina coast, I'd love to help you preserve a little piece of it.

Because vacations end, babies grow, and the people you love won't ever be exactly as they are in this moment again.
